Many students at Pattonville recognized Thursday Sept. 26 as a modified ‘B’ day, but several upperclassmen recognized it as an early step for college preparation. Pattonville hosted the North County College Fair on the same day around school dismissal from 1-2:30 p.m. The event allowed students to make valuable connections with college representatives and mutually accommodate the time of all attendees.

“We changed [the time] to the day to give more [busy] students an opportunity to attend the fair,” said college counselor Julie Kampschroeder. “We had a great turnout with nearly twice as many students as usual.”

Admission counselors from over 70 colleges and universities set up tables in the main gym. Seniors and juniors from Pattonville, Ritenour, North Tech, North Christian and Jennings High School were invited.

“The college fair allowed seniors to build a personal relationship with college representatives,” said Kampschroeder. “Juniors were also welcome to find out information about their future options.”

Students received pamphlets and packets from their schools of interest. The fair provided a chance for seniors to explore options and set preferences, as many continue to apply to colleges before the expressed application cut-off date of Oct. 31.

“This college fair was really helpful,” said Senior Asia Thomas, who collected information from Fontbonne, Columbia, and Drury University. “I like the one-on-one interaction rather than going online for all of the information.”
