As Christmas approaches the boys varsity basketball team is working hard to be ready for the full swing of the season that takes place in the second semester. There are games before winter break but only a handful. The bigger stretch of games comes after the New Year.
This year’s team is looking to improve on their 18-8 record from last year. They are also looking to take the Suburban North Conference title from Hazelwood Central, who won the league outright a year ago. This would be big for the Pirates as they are leaving the Suburban North Conference next year.
Junior Avery Washington said he has high expectations for the team this year.
“I expect to have a winning record, and to beat Hazelwood Central and take the conference title,” Washington said.
With two returning starters from last year, the Pirates will have a good foundation for this years team. They will definitely be putting some decent experience on the floor this year with a couple returning juniors, to go with their senior combo guard Eddie Longmeyer who averaged 12 points per game last year.
The Pirates recently finished 3rd in a basketball tournament that was hosted by Pattonville. They defeated MICDS 68-64 last week to claim third place. Earlier this week the Pirates fell to St.Charles 63-47. That game was the home opener for the Pirates but unfortunately they couldn’t pull it out.
But not to worry, the Pirates have a chance to get back on track when they play Trinity on Monday December 16th at Trinity at 6 PM. This is definitely a winnable game for Pattonville as they beat Trinity last year.
The Pirates are looking to have a big year this season so pick up a winter sports schedule outside of the STUCO store and make sure to catch as many games as possible.
