The cheerleaders were full of spirit as the team competed at the National Cheerleaders Association competition.
In order for the cheerleaders to be ready for this competition held on Jan. 12 at the Family Arena in St. Charles, they had to practice for many hours.
“We practiced sometimes twice a day for about 2 to 3 hours each practice,” Destiny McKinney said.
Many of the cheerleaders are returning varsity cheerleaders and most are seniors who have been to this competition many times before. But for others, this was their first time competing.
“I was nervous, but I felt that we could win,” McKinney said.
This was a pretty big competition for most of the newer cheerleaders. As for other returning cheerleaders like Megan Holtmeyer it wasn’t as competitive as she hoped.
“We competed in the large co-ed advance level,” Holtmeyer said. “It was a pretty small level to compete on.”
The only other team in their category was Fort Osage Beach High School, but the team said they were very proud of their performance.
“We did pretty good,” McKinney said. “We got 2nd place out of the two competitors.”
