Everyone needs a PAL

Everyone needs someone to give them comfort, or to help them make sure they are making good choices. It is a good feeling to know you have someone to talk to or approach. How do you know you will have that everywhere you go though?

Peer Assistance Leadership is what you will find here in Pattonville. Students that take the time out to reach out in order to help the other students. It makes the school more pleasant for all and welcomes those who are new.

PALs do activities to help others in the school, especially freshman. The young teens that are in this club help to keep the freshman on track with grades and situations that happen every day. Hannah Williams, a junior and a proud member of PALs, said, “I like knowing I can make a difference.” She told how the group is currently doing ABC (About Better Choices) for the middle school students.

PALs is not just another club you can join into because you want to or need to. You have to be accepted. One has to prove that they are capable of being helpful to others. To apply, one must fill out an application, have qualifying grades, must be a junior or senior, go through an interviewing process, and not have any record of getting in trouble. Seems like a lot of work for a club, however it is a benefit for all. Mrs. Kuhn, the adviser and sponsor of PALs, will choose who best fits the spot to aid other students at PHS.

Kuhn seems to be completely loved by all of her students. Williams proceeded to say how her favorite part of PALs was Mrs. Kuhn because of how nice she is, but of course she also loves the fact that she knows she is helping others to make good choices. “There is nothing I don’t like about PALs,” Williams expressed with excitement.

Pattonville High School is honored to have such a program such as PALs. It helps to make a better environment for both the students and the teachers. At PHS, everyone is ensured that they will have a PAL that they can approach.
