After a gathering of all the Suburban North boys’ basketball coaches last Thursday, Pattonville guard Eddie Longmeyer was voted Suburban North Conference Player of the Year. The standout senior was one of two Pirates to earn all-conference recognition, along with junior forward Jacob Knox (Third Team).
Longmeyer earned the award after averaging 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game during Suburban North contests. His superior conference play was enough to catch the attention of the other Suburban North basketball coaches, who collectively vote for the Player of the Year and other all-conference accolades. The award made Longmeyer the first Pattonville player in the past 20 years to receive Player of the Year honors.
“His play made him stick out to the other coaches,” varsity basketball coach Kelly Thames said of Longmeyer. “He was good at putting points on the board and did much better than I expected from last year.”
Longmeyer’s stats on the 2013-14 season not only eclipsed his junior year numbers, but many of his competitors’ stat lines as well. Longmeyer led the entire Suburban North with a season average of 22.4 points per game, while also finishing third in assists (3.3 per game) and free throw percentage (67.4%).
“Last year, I thought I played pretty well but knew I could do more,” Longmeyer said of his junior season. “That thought helped me improve my game, and I think it showed.”
