5 questions with…Sam Decker

2011 Mr. PHS, Harry Kolmer, crowns new king, Sam Decker

Last Friday, Feb. 24, Sam Decker was crowned Mr. PHS. Decker won the judges’ hearts with a performance that showed off his musical talents. To get to know Decker a little better, the Pirate Press asked him a few tell-all questions.

1. What do you plan to do after high school?

Go to college-hopefully University of Tulsa to double major in Applied Math and Music Composition.

2. Who is your biggest musical inspiration and influence?

Definitely Ben Folds and Regina Spektor.

3. What has been your favorite of all the performances you’ve put on?

Arsenic and Old Lace. Mortimer Brewster was so fun to play, and the cast was great.

4. What are your other interests?

Sports, especially volleyball and rugby, and eating food.

5. Describe your experience at Mr. PHS on and off stage.

Everyone was in a super good mood; overall, it’s just a funny group of guys. I was more nervous for Hannah (sister and drummer for Decker’s act) than me, but she did fine. I was the one that ended up messing up. As far as questions go, I just relaxed and gave honest answers.

Decker’s honest answers paid off nicely. With two free tickets to prom and bragging rights, he wears his title proudly as Mr. PHS.
