Meet Kaleb Eleby.
He is a freshman at Pattonville High School. He is on the football team. He plays quarterback. But not on the team that you would guess.
Eleby made the varsity football team and is the starting quarterback for the undefeated Pirates (3-0).
Eleby started playing football at the age of 6 and his mom and his former coaches have been a huge help for him learning the game.
“The playbook can be challenging,” Eleby said, “but my teammates and coaches break it down for me to make it easier for me to learn.”
With Eleby’s favorite football player being Denver Bronco’s quarterback Peyton Manning, he models his game a lot from a future Hall of Famer.
“He always prepares himself,” Eleby said. “With the amount of work he puts in, he is successful on and off the field.”
Just three weeks into the season, he appreciates all the help he has been getting early in his high school career.
“I feel blessed to have the opportunity to play for the varsity team and learning from the older players on the team is a big learning experience,” Eleby said. “My teammates are good teammates and they encourage me and other players on the team.”
Eleby’s goals for the season are to have a winning record and for everyone to come together to form a good team.
He plans on also participating in basketball and track at Pattonville, but first, a good athlete always knows to focus on the next big game.
For Eleby and the Pirates, that is Friday, Sept. 12, at Ritenour. The game kicks off at 7 p.m.
