Journalism students attend conference

Seventeen students enrolled in Pirate Press, ECHO and Journalism I attended the SSP Conference on March 12 at Webster University.

Students attended two break-out sessions and a keynote presentation by J.B. Forbes and Johnny Andrews, St. Louis Post-Dispatch photojournalists.

Break-out sessions included options ranging from television and radio, newspaper and yearbook, laws and ethics, and writing and design. Seniors Jacqueline Neil and Gabby Pirrie also participated in a Senior Write-off competition where the topic involved cyber bullying.

The newspaper staff won multiple awards including:

Taylor Dumas – Reviews (Diving into Blue Ocean)

Overall Newspaper

Lexi Kendall, Sara Berkbiegler, Joey Schneider, Brady Bell and Tim Vleisides – In-depth Story (Classes being cut)

Jacqueline Neil – Senior Write-off

Taylor Dumas – Inside Page Design (Taylor’s Top 10 Movies)
