Sign-ups for the Pattonville blood drive are up and running during all lunches. Registration for the Key Club Blood Drive began on Feb. 2 and have already been filled a third of the way. Everyone that donates helps fill the over 40,000 blood donations that are needed each day within the United States.

“The experience is really fulfilling knowing that you can help someone in need,” junior Julie Ensor said.

The blood drive is all day, and for the past few years, have had over-flowing amounts of people to sign up.

Key Club member junior Bridget Farrell said the work that goes into the planning of this event is rewarding.

“Even though I’m not donating, I’m eager to get other people to sign up,” Farrell said. “It’s a lot of hard work to run, but it’s well worth it knowing what we are doing will affect people’s lives positively.”

The Red Cross runs the blood drive making donating blood a very safe process, especially in the school setting. In addition to nurses, medical help is always on standby if needed, and clean materials are used every time someone donates. Once done donating, students get to sit down, eat snacks, and enjoy part of a movie until they feel well enough to return to class.

The blood drive takes place on Feb. 12 starting at 7:30 am. It is scheduled to end at 1:30 pm.
