Pattonville varsity girls’ soccer participated in a College Showcase April 1-2 at the Lou Fusz Soccer Complex in Maryland Heights and went 1-1 during the competition. The girls competed against big name schools including Cor Jesu which was then-ranked No. 8 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and Jefferson City.

“One of the main reasons we played is to play against top competition,” Coach Tom Iffrig said. “Another reason is that it gave the girls on the team a chance to be seen and recruited by college coaches because there were over 40 coaches attending the games.”

The girls only played two matches in the showcase, but they played two schools they don’t see in regular season.

“We played Cor Jesu and Jefferson City,” Iffrig said. “It’s was nice to see and play teams that aren’t from the St. Louis area, especially since Cor Jesu is ranked in the Top 10 in the St. Louis area.”

On Friday, Pattonville beat No. 8 large school Cor Jesu in a 1-0 game decided on penalty kicks, but dropped to Jefferson City on Saturday in a 1-0 loss.

Player Jordin McGehee believes the team did well in the tournament.

“I think our strengths were that we possessed the ball real well so that’s very helpful,” McGehee said. “I think that our overall team chemistry had really help us this weekend.”

The team had some main goals for the weekend also.

“We needed to play hard for every single game and staying strong,” senior Leeann Graff said. “The wind was awful on Saturday which was really difficult to play in. It was only blowing in one direction so it was hard to push the ball to the other team’s goal.”

The girls (3-2) next play on April 11 at Marquette.
