Girls’ track runs for a school record

This year’s track teams are nearing the end of the season and the girls’ relay teams have been very successful, nearing school records.

Both the 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams are ranked in the Top 10 of the state and have a very big chance in breaking the school record in both relays.

In the 4×100, the record is 49.6 seconds and the girls’ fastest time this season has been a 49.9 seconds. In the 4×200, the record is 1:44.9 and the fastest time this season was a 1:45.6.

“We have a really big chance in breaking more records this season,” coach Rob Lamb said. “We already had Fatima Richards (pole vault) and Chris Gleghorn (long jump) break jumping records a little earlier in the season.”

The 4×100 team consists of Erykah White, Tyelor Duncan, Fatima Richards, and Jada Moore. The 4×200 team consists of Erykah White, Tyelor Duncan, Allyson Sanders, and Jada Moore.

“I think we have a really good chance this year of going to state and placing in our relays this year,” senior Fatima Richards said.

The team is now in a win-or-go-home situation. If they don’t place in the Top 4 at the districts meet on Saturday, May 14, at Lutheran North, they cannot go on to sectionals, which means no state.

“The season won’t be a failure if we don’t advance because we have decreased our time a lot from last year and we have been able to compete against the good schools in our area,” Erykah White said. “But it would be the best feeling ever to advance because it’s what we have been working on to do and we would be sending the seniors out with a bang.”
