Second semester has just started but freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are already having to think about next year.

The first Stop Day of the year was on Tuesday, Jan. 17, which is a day teachers ‘stop’ teaching for a few minutes each hour to discuss course options for their department.

This is important for students so they know what options they have when registering for next year. For teachers, it is the opportunity to get to promote their classes in order to have more kids taking them.

“When talking about the art department, it always depends on students and what they are interested in,” art teacher Ms. Kathy Huelsing said. “However, I strongly suggest to try courses like sculpture, ceramics, photography or computer art to develop imagination and creativity.”

The timeline for registration is:

Thursday, January 19: Pirate Connections (Homeroom)

Tuesday, January 31: STOP day #2 (Modified “A” day)

  • 1st hour teachers will hand out registration forms to all 9th-11th grade students
  • Pirate Connections at the end of the day, all students enter course requests in PowerSchool

Thursday, February 2: Pirate Connections (Homeroom)

  • Teachers look over student course requests on PowerSchool

After course requests are made, counselors will be meeting one-on-one with students to go over their selections and make sure they have the courses they need for graduation.
