“We all make mistakes, but we need to do more to safeguard against these kinds of mistakes,” Göran Svensson, head of the Media and Communication Studies department at Uppsala University told The Local.
“The onus is on us as educators to inform our students and we’ll have to do that better,” Svensson said.
His promise to Uppsala University was that foreign affairs with students attending Uppsala would be dealt with delicately, on behalf of misunderstandings of any type. Primarily language misinterpretations.
This has all been in response to Eliana Velez’s ordeal, a graduate from the United States. She went through her courses and finished her education for a master’s degree at Uppsala. But later found out, there was some sort of mix-up, and her degree did not show up on records. Velez was possibly going to lose her job when the problem was finally situated.
“I just want it to be over,” she said.
