Santorum Suspends Campaign

Rick Santorum suspended his campaign on Tuesday, the suspension followed a weekend at the hospital when his 3 year old daughter, Bella, was admitted on Friday. Santorum, in a speech announcing his suspension, said that the hospitalization of his daughter made him think about what it means to be a father.

Bella was born with a crippling genetic disorder, Trisomy 18. The Santorums stated that she was discharged Monday night and is doing just fine.

Hogan Gidley, Santorum’s campaign spokesmen, said that the family is “truly overwhelmed by the prayers and support they’ve received.”

Romney, who now has a nearly unopposed shot at the nomination, made a statement shortly after Santorum’s announcement:

“Senator Santorum is an able and worthy competitor, and I congratulate him on the campaign he ran. He has proven himself to be an important voice in our party and in the nation. We both recognize that what is most important is putting the failures of the last three years behind us and setting America back on the path to prosperity.”

No word from Santorum has arrived yet on who he will support during the rest of the elections.
