Chabot prepared her French 1 class for solar eclipse by showing a video on safety
Because Pattonville High School was not in totality, it was never safe for students to take off their glasses.
French teacher Judith Chabot showed her French 1 class a video on how to safely use and wear the solar eclipse glasses for the event which would occur later on in the day of August 21, 2017.
“I had questions myself on the correct way to wear the glasses. I figured my students did as well, and they did,” Chabot said.
The video pictured a woman correctly putting on and looking up with the glasses. She also explained the dangers of what can happen when you do not use them, and when they are safe to take off during totality.
Even though Pattonville was never in 100 percent totality, it was as close as it can get, and Chabot was excited for that.
“[I am excited for] totality, yes, but not just the sun part, the rest of the sky. You’re going to be able to see planets and it’s going to be like night time during the day.”
Chabot was glad that school was in session, as the teachers were able to go over eye safety precautions with the students. She was also happy just to be able to view the eclipse.
“It’s once in a lifetime.”
