Students and staff were able to witness a once-in-a-lifetime event as the solar eclipse passed through the St. Louis area on Monday, Aug. 21.

Pattonville School District provided special glasses to view the eclipse to all students along with a planned time to view the passing of the moon over the sun. The special glasses, decorated with the school district colors and logo were passed out during 7th hour and were considered a real fashion statement by junior Kendall Battle.

Viewing the solar eclipse with a group of friends, Battle said she enjoyed the chance to view the event.

“The glasses were kind of what I expected them to be,” Battle said. “I thought they would be a little bit more extravagant, but I still have them.”

Students all around campus could be seen taking Snapchats and cool photos with the glasses on.

Junior Emma Wigginton was viewing the eclipse and taking pictures of friends with the glasses.

“The glasses were super cool, they made the solar eclipse look really pretty,” she said. “I liked how they put Pattoville’s logo and colors all over them. It made them feel like the glasses were part of the school and they were one-of-a-kind.”
