National Honor Society taps its new members during school

September 11, 2017

During first hour on Sept. 11, current members of Pattonville’s National Honor Society went to the classes of its new members and took them back to the auditorium to become official members of NHS.

One of the group’s sponsors, Mr. Ryan Brueckmann, said the tapping event lasted all of first hour.

“NHS is a national group that has been at Pattonville for a very long time and does community service for the school, and focuses on scholarships, character, leadership, and service,” he said. “It’s a chance to recognize students that go above and beyond in the high school.”

He explained that being accepted to join NHS is based on certain requirements and an application must be submitted before the deadline.

“Juniors and seniors that have a 3.5 GPA, 25 community service hours and are involved in activities are eligible,” Brueckmann said. “Then there’s a faculty committee that goes through the applicants and that go through the applications.”

New member Robert Gibson said he is excited about joining NHS.

“I feel like it’s a chance to be a leader in the community and be a part of something good at the school,” Gibson said. “It also gives me something to put on my college applications.”
