Student Council has chosen a Homecoming theme for this year: Superheroes.

STUCO members all got together for several meetings where members could just throw out any themes they could think of. They had about seven or eight ideas, but narrowed it down to five or six, and got those ideas approved by the administration.

“We had several sessions of people throwing out ideas. With five or six, there was a vote on what the student body wanted [from polls on Moodle],” STUCO sponsor Ms. Heather Lopez-Johnston said. “Seniors got first priority to choose what their class would want.”

STUCO sponsor Ms. Jacqueline Saxton said one reason they chose the theme is simply because it is easy for everyone.

“We knew it was easy to dress up as, and we had to think about all grades,” she said. “STUCO had seven or eight theme ideas, and the officers and chairs chose from those. This year, class officers could have a say in the voting.”

Another reason why STUCO decided to choose the Superhero theme was because it fit well with the school’s partnership with Make-A-Wish, which grants children with sicknesses anything they want; many wishes kids in the foundation make is to meet their favorite superheroes.

The money raised from this year’s class penny wars will be donated to Make-A-Wish in order to fund a child’s wish.

Homecoming is the week of Oct. 9-13 with the parade and dance being held on Oct. 14.
