Tyler prepares for upcoming track season

Travis Tyler is wasting no time and is already preparing for the upcoming track season this spring.

It might be a few months away, but for him, there’s never an off-season.

“I practice off-season because if you take a break, then your body won’t be prepared for the next season,” he said. “Training all year round will have you ready to beat any competition.”

The junior athlete has some unique ways of training, one which includes him wearing a breath-limiting mask.

“It’s an altitude mask, and it helps control breathing and build endurance so you can last longer when you take it off.”

Tyler goes to the track on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, and lifts weights on the other days.

He plans to participate in the following races: the 100,  200, 4×100 relay, and 4×200 relay.

“I train every day and push myself every day,” he said. “I run my hardest and fastest so I’ll be able to do it with ease when the actual race comes.”

He has done a lot to improve himself over the years.

“My freshman year, I was running 13.3s in a 100, then sophomore year, I was running 11.69s, and now my junior year, I’m running 10s and I hope to get faster by the track season.”

Spring sports start Feb. 26, 2018.
