Pattonville’s Junior Varsity baseball team walked away with a big win over Hazelwood West on Thursday, April 12. In the first inning alone, the Pirates made a quick five runs. The Pirates were only getting warmed up though.
The Pirates scored two more runs in the third inning. In the fourth inning, Lamar Forland hit a triple, driving in two more runs. He then proceeded to make a break for home after there was an over throw at first base. This brought the Pirates to a 10-0 lead.
The Pirates would have had a shut out, except in the fifth inning, Pattonville’s first baseman was injured. With their teammate down, the Pirates were not quite sure what to do. Hazelwood West took advantage of the opportunity and scored one run.
After the Pirates stopped the Wildcats from scoring another run in the fifth, the game was over. Pattonville had reached a lead to where the mercy rule could be used. The Pirates walked away with big smiles on their faces.
