Pattonville’s National Honor Society partnered with the American Red Cross and held a blood drive on Friday, Oct. 27, in the low ceiling room.

Pattonville NHS member Chrystian Vaughn-Taylor explained the importance of the event.

“NHS blood drives are for students to show their willingness to help others in need of a blood transfusion or clean blood for other types of transfusions,” Vaughn-Taylor said.

Students were able to sign up at the beginning of the week and when they arrived to the sign-in location, they were read a descriptive booklet of the donation process.

Senior Nadia Maddex was one student that took time to donate.

“I feel like if you are able to and in good health, it is important to donate because you could be the reason someone still lives,” Maddex said.

Maddex also said she felt a sense of community from staff and peers.

“Everyone said they felt really good afterward,” she said. “Giving blood saves lives and if you have the opportunity to give back and make a difference, then you should.”

Students were able to make an appointment with NHS by contacting a sponsor. Students wanting to participate had to be 16 years of age with parental consent and a photo ID to be eligible to donate.

If students missed the opportunity, but still want the chance to donate, they can visit www.redcrossblood.org and access the Blood Donor App online.
