Pattonville Varsity Drill Team goes to first competition of the season

The Varsity Drill Team performs at the football state championship game at the University of Missouri.

The Varsity Drill Team will be competing in the Yvonne Cole Lindbergh Invitational competition this Saturday, Dec. 2.

The Lindbergh Competition is considered to be a pretty big deal for drill teams in the St. Louis area as it is the first time everyone in the area will see what they are competing against this competition season.

Second-year captain Brittany Bell has performed with the Varsity Drill Team since her freshman year and this will be her fourth and last time competing in this showcase.

“Knowing that this is my last time going to Lindbergh makes me really sad because I love being a part of this program,” Bell admits.

The Drill Team has been preparing for this day since the beginning of October when they had a 28-hour weekend choreography practice, and are expecting to do pretty well this weekend.

“This team has been working extremely hard and we have had to make adjustments due to injuries, but the team has been resilient,” Bell said.

While having to overcome injuries and constantly perfect their routines, the Drill Team has been practicing continuously to be the best that they can be.

“We have had a lot of non-stop practices and performances since football went to state. The fall sports season and our competition season overlapped and it made it more difficult to practice football routines along with our competition routines,” Bell said. “We have had little to no breaks so far this season and are excited to show everyone the outcome of all of our hard work on Saturday.”

Come support the Varsity Drill Team on Saturday, Dec. 2, at Lindbergh High School. The team’s Pom routine is expected go on at 10 a.m., followed by their hip hop routine at 11:24 a.m.
