High school students promote clubs during 8th Grade Clubs Fair

On Thursday, Feb. 1, 8th graders from Pattonville Heights and Holman middle schools and Remington Traditional took a field trip up to the high school for a Clubs Fair to explore all of the clubs, sports, and activities they can be involved in when they start school in the fall and for an assembly hosted by PALs.

One group toured the fair first and then were taken to the gym for an assembly with the other schools, and then following the assembly, the second group headed to the multi-purpose room. Every student was handed a bag to keep all their flyers in and students had the chance to walk up to any booth to get more information on what they wanted to know about the club or sport they wanted to be in.

All clubs had booths set up, showing off what they offer and what kind of activities they participate in. Robotics played around with the robots they made, Theatre had a slideshow of photos from past plays and musicals, and Muslim Student Association were putting hijabs on students for World Hijab Day.

At the first session of the Clubs Fair, the Journalism booth set up a broadcast studio and live streamed BB&J’s weekly Pirates Sports Network podcast on Facebook.

During the hour that all 8th graders were at the assembly, Pirate Press member Jashayla Pettigrew hosted a Facebook Live broadcast as she interviewed members from all the different clubs.

Pettigrew interviewed students from orchestra, Key Club, theatre, drill team, volleyball, and a few others while the middler schools were in an assembly in the gym.

“I enjoyed learning more about clubs that I haven’t been in because the variety of extra curricular activities we offer is cool,” she said.
