Students attend Anime Club on Wednesdays after school

Emily McDowell is part of the Anime Club group that hangs outside of the classroom and plays on her Nintendo DS with her friends.

Anime Club meets on Wednesdays every other week outside Mr. Givens’s room (B111).

Mr. Ernest Givens began sponsoring it when he started teaching at the high school about 5 years ago but it has been around longer than that.

“The club is about anime, fun, and friendship,” Givens said. “It means that people who share a common interest can get together and share that with each other. Togetherness, it means chaos unbridled. Nothing’s the same.”

There are two groups when it comes to the club. One half sits outside the room in the hallway quietly playing on their Nintendo DSs, and the other group inside the room is a little more rowdy watching an anime show or playing games.

Emily McDowell has been a part of the club since freshman year and elects to sit outside the room to avoid the chaos.

“I prefer a little peace of mind,” she said. “I enjoy hanging out with friends and seeing everybody I usually don’t see during the day.”

She joined the club because she likes the subject.

“I like anime and I wanted to meet people with common interests.”
