For many, Spring Break is a time to relax and escape away from school and its activities. This doesn’t ring true for spring athletes who still have to participate in practice and games over break. This especially isn’t true for those on the varsity lacrosse team who had to play a game on the final day of their Spring Break. The Pirates beat Parkway Central 14-2.

After Pattonville’s loss in their first game to Westminster 14-6, and the cancellation of their second game scheduled against Northwest (rescheduled for April 9), the girls were eager to finally play again.

Midfield Mikayla Bridges said playing during Spring Break was rough.

“At first, it was really upsetting because I had to come back early from vacation, but it was fun to see the team again and play together.”

The weather failed to help the situation either. With the wind chill in the teens, the girls bundled up in blankets, jackets, and compressions, but the cold wasn’t able to stop them. After the JV team who played first finished with a successful victory against Parkway Central, the varsity team, after sitting in the cold for an hour, prepared to face their opponent.

“I am extremely proud of how our team is coming together,” junior captain Victoria Lofland said. “We all work very well together like a little family. I think both our connection and personal skills helped us take the dub against Central.”

The score ended with a 14-2 Pirates victory with Leslie Azwell leading the team with 6 goals. Bianca Johnson (3), Mikayla Bridges (2), Victoria Lofland (1), and Abby Surlet (1) all contributed scores. Parkway Central has yet to report their stats.
