Female students explore careers at The Sky is the Limit event

This year, the Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club hosted the 24th annual The Sky is the Limit Career Readiness Program.

On Saturday, April 28, girls from schools in the St. Louis area woke up early to attend the 8 a.m. program.

The event features workshops with successful business women from many different fields discussing how young women can get ahead in life.

The session topics included: STEM, communications, financial planning, personal branding, health care, event planning, social media usage, and other fields. Sessions take into consideration opportunities and challenges that are unique to women.

“This was my second time attending The Sky is the Limit program and I enjoy it profusely,” senior Alexandria Taylor said.

She said she enjoyed the food the most.

“The food is great.”

She didn’t have any leftovers from the meal, but she was able to take other things with her.

“I learned how to make a personal brand for myself and it’s giving me connections for future things I’m going to do with my life.”

This Saturday, about 10 girls from Pattonville will attend a Networking and Scholarship Luncheon where they will be matched up with mentors from the workshops and converse with them throughout the afternoon.

Also at the luncheon, one senior from each school represented will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

The uplifting event also included motivational speakers and a fashion show on how to dress for success.
