The International Club is promoting peace with an interactive peace wings mural located outside of D201 in the social studies wing.

The mural is displayed as a photo backdrop as a way to celebrate the International Day of Peace, which is marked each year on September 21, and for the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which was created in 1948 and states the basic rights for people.

Social studies teacher Ms. Katherine Korte is the club’s sponsor.

“The club wanted to do something interactive that students can take a picture with and bring awareness to it,” Korte said. “Also, they thought wings were a good symbol of peace and can be inspiration.”

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is an important document.

“It was created after World War II by the U.N. (United Nations) and it identifies rights that all people should have.”

The message of the peace mural is to promote peace and unity.

“It will probably be here for a week,” she said, referring to how long the mural will remain up.
