$1.6 billion up for grabs in Mega Millions jackpot

The Mega Millions jackpot for Tuesday’s drawing has risen to at least $1.6 billion. The jackpot for the Powerball is now $620 million. Combined, the two top prizes total more than $2 billion.

The numbers for these jackpots will continue to rise until some lucky person wins.

While some students at Pattonville are not old enough to play the lottery, it doesn’t stop them from thinking about how they would spend the money if they won the jackpot.

Freshman Sean Vernor Jr. said, “I would buy a mansion, buy my parents a mansion, spend a little of it for goods, give some to charity, and then bank it.”

Some would just invest it.

“I would bank it,” Nicholas Davis II said.

Even if you don’t win the jackpot, there are some side prizes worth as much as $1 million.

This jackpot will be the largest jackpot in the history of U.S. lottery prizes.  The biggest jackpot was previously in 2016 when the Powerball jackpot went for $1.586 billion, but that money didn’t just go to one lucky winner; it was split among three different winning tickets.

The reason the jackpots have skyrocketed is because nobody has won the Mega Millions since July or the Powerball since August, but don’t get your hopes up because in all honesty, you probably won’t match all the winning numbers because the odds are one in a couple hundred million.

If you want to take a chance though, purchase a ticket before Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing or Wednesday’s Powerball drawing.
