The Pirates lift the District championship trophy after winning it on Oct. 25.

“Dub Szn” became the Pattonville girls’ volleyball motto after taking home a win in the District Tournament and moving on to state.

The varsity girls’ volleyball team (20-9-3) won the Class 4 District 5 championship on Oct. 25 after defeating McCluer North and Hazelwood West. They won both games 2-0.

“For it being my first year on volleyball at Pattonville, winning Districts feels so good,” senior Lacey Swanson said. “I played this year to just have a little fun and end my high school career doing something I grew up doing. To win with some of my closest friends and my favorite people, it felt amazing. It’s Dub Szn.”

Senior Trinity Wessler has been playing volleyball all 4 years and was extremely excited about the win.

“I am beyond excited. The team worked super hard this season and we were so happy,” she said. “Especially since I’m a senior, it’s so great to go out winning districts.”

Helen Nelson, Week 2’s winner of the Pirates Sports Net Athlete of the Week, showed her excitement about the future for the team.

“I feel very excited that we got to win Districts and I’m proud of the team considering that this hasn’t happened in 12 years,” Nelson said. “I feel like everyone on the team worked really hard for this win. I’m really proud of my teammates and we need to keep grinding and push forward for state.”

The Pirates now are competing to continue their “Dub Szn.”

They play Francis Howell (27-8-1) on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 3 p.m. at Pattonville. The winner will advance to play the survivor of the 4:30 p.m. contest between Timberland and Eureka. The state quarterfinal game begins at 6 p.m.
