Two Swimmers Qualify for State Early in Season

On September 5, 2019, Philip Tso and Chaska Cox-Potter, two members of the varsity boys’ swim team, earned qualifying times during their competition against Oakville High School. The boys have been working throughout the first few weeks of the season  to compete and make it to their goal of going to state. As of yesterday afternoon, both Tso and Cox-Potter did just that.

Senior Phillip Tso competed in the 100 fly. He was ahead of the other competitors and was flying down the lane. He finished a few seconds ahead of state qualifying time. Ecstatic about his finish, Tso was finally relieved that he will be once again going to state and that he can now focus on other races.

In addition to Tso, senior Chaska Cox-Potter competed in the 100 breast. He managed to stay ahead of the other competitors and receive his state time and to finish ahead of state qualifying time with a few seconds to spare. Cox-Potter was happy that he will also be going to state again. Tso and Cox-Potter’s teammates were extremely happy for them and gave them plenty of congratulations.

The boys’ coach Mrs. Braswell says “I’m elated that they make it to state. I feel good that I get to see all their hard work pay off.” The meet was quite a moment for the entire swim team and they hope to achieve more state qualifying times in the future.
