Students in Honors English 2 Create a Holocaust Museum

On November 4, students in Mrs. Funderburk’s and Mrs. Moritz’s Honors English 2 class created a Holocaust museum in the B104 during second, third, and seventh hour. The project connects to the students’ study of Night, Elie Wiesel’s work chronicling his first-hand account of the Holocaust. Students were required to work with a partner and create a presentation based on any historical event during the holocaust, as well as provide a visual aid for their topic.

Mrs Moritz, one of the teachers that hosted this event, said that about 70 pairs of students were involved. Some groups had very unique ideas, like a group who learned and played music on a violin from the holocaust. Another group presented about what it would have been like to be a child of a holocaust survivor. One of the students’ biggest challenges for this project was creating a piece for viewing using a tool other than technology; one group even made original artwork from the Holocaust.

As a part of the project, the students met in B104, where students in other classes could come and view their museum displays. About four or five classes came in per hour to learn about the Holocaust. The students were required to present their topic to these other students when approached. The museum-goers asked a lot of engaging questions and were impressed with the uniqueness and depth put into these projects.
