Preparing for the future – Where should I be now?

Ms. Kampschroeder, the college counselor at Pattonville, works hard every day to insure that students are doing what needs to be done to prepare for the future. Kampschroeder prides herself in being one of the few college counselors in the area and is determined to do the best she can at her job. She recommends that all four year college applications be sent in by October 31st in order to be considered for scholarships (most are due November 1st).

If seniors don’t know how to apply to colleges, they can go to the college’s website, click on admissions, and then apply. If students have questions, Ms. Kampschroeder encourages them to come to her office and ask for help. “For four-year school”, Kampschroeder explains, “the next step in the application process would be to fill out a transcript request form in the main office, and then send in ACT scores to the college. If letters of recommendation are required, let teachers know ahead of time so they are not rushed to write them.”

The application process is a little more simple when it comes to community colleges. For St. Louis community colleges, students can go to stlcc.edu, click on admissions, apply and then send in the high school transcript. For St. Charles community colleges, the same process applies, but the website is stchas.edu. Compass tests will determine which classes students will be placed in community college.

For seniors who have already applied to all of their colleges, Ms. Kampschroeder says that they can relax, but still need to look for extra scholarships. Outside scholarships that are not based on merit can be found on websites like stlgraduates.org, and some  can also be found in Ms. Kampschroeder’s office.

As a last word of advice, Ms. Kampschroeder said, “All seniors need to make sure they apply to their colleges as soon as possible, whether four year schools or community colleges. After applying, make scholarships a number one priority.” For more information, go to this website.
