Pattonville gets fit

securedownloadJunior Travis Beal started weightlifting to become fit, and to start a personal goal of his.

Many students, boys and girls, stay after school to work out with history teacher Mr. Justin Smiley to get fit. His intense workouts seem to be attracting others to get into shape.

Beal said that because of weightlifting, he had changed his everyday diet. He said that he tries to eat more protein such as protein shakes and meat. He also said, “Mr. Smiley always says, ‘If it doesn’t breathe or bleed, it isn’t protein.'”

Corey Lumpkins, junior, said he considers Smiley to be more than just a coach in the weightlifting room.

“He’s more than a coach, more of a father figure.”

Lumpkins added he believes sports and weightlifting go hand to hand, weightlifting is an addition to sports and makes people stronger and better.

Pattonville students and staff members that are involved in this program are starting to realize the importance of being healthy.

Lumpkins said he encourages others to start going after school and start working out as well.
