It’s in the books

Nearly everybody at Pattonville has stayed after school to use the library a couple times. And not everything in the library is the same from normal school hours to after school hours.

There are a countless number of differences when you visit the library in the school day and after school. Even the librarians are different. One of which, happen to be Ms. Jefferson as some call her.

“My name is Karen Lahai (La-hi) Pumagoi (Poo-ma-go-eey) but the students call me Ms. Jefferson. [They call me that] because it’s easy for them to remember and say. And it’s my maiden name.”

She explained why she became a librarian.

“It wasn’t really about me becoming a librarian, I saw the job and thought it would be very interesting. I enjoy learning new things, and interacting with kids.”

She maybe should not have worked at a school, if that’s what she had in mind, because not everything is fun about being a part-time banker.

“[What’s annoying is] when kids ask me for money, I have four kids at home and students get upset when I say no.”

Unfortunately, she is a librarian and not a local Pay Day Loans. Even though her last name is Jefferson, that doesn’t mean she has nickels to hand out at request.

Jefferson was once a student at PHS and she still thinks things are the same.

“It hasn’t really changed very much, except the extensions to the building. And we had a STUCO that actually sold candy. Now it’s all healthy.”

She also went on to mention how she saw some of her old teachers. She even remembers assistant principal Bernard West.

“It was weird at first seeing my old principal,” she said. “When I saw him he said, ‘Ms. Jefferson, you wanna be written up?’ and I said old flashback.”

Old teachers, old principal, old flashback. This school must be full of old people.

Although, there were some good old times, and some not so good old times, their was a lesson to be learned in the end.

“Now being on the flipside, being a librarian has taught me to respect teachers even more now, because I see what they go through on a day-to-day basis.
