Positive changes for Kanney

Ms. Laura Kanney was an English teacher in the Positive School for 8 years. This year will be her first year teaching in the high school. I’ve taken the opportunity to ask Kanney a few questions about the transition.

Q: What is the biggest change between POS and regular school?

A: “The number of people, there’s a lot less kids in POS,” Kanney said. She’s used to teaching three classes in a day and with fewer students than she has now.

Q: Was it hard leaving the students in POS?

A: Kanney said, “It was sad, change is always hard.” Students have said they had a good student-teacher relationship with Kanney and many POS students were sad to hear that she was leaving Positive School.

Q: Does the transition to regular school effect the way you teach?

A: “Yes and no,” Kanney said. “It challenges me to do better, which is a personal goal. I’m always challenging myself to be better, but this changes the game.”

Q: What do you like about regular school?

A: “I love seeing all the new faces, meeting new people.”

Q: Is it harder to connect with your students now that you have so many more?

A: “No, I’m still the same person,” she said.
