Before you run at me with pitchforks and torches, hear me out.

For as long as I can remember, The Olympics have always been a series of events that bring the world together to celebrate the best of the best athletes in given sports from all around the globe.

Personally, I see nothing of interest in the Winter Olympics.

Okay, you can throw rotten vegetables at me now.

Really, it’s probably because I know little to nothing about almost every single event hosted in the Games, but in my opinion, the Winter Games aren’t hyped up as much as the Summer Olympics, by any means.

Every Summer Olympics that I can recall–which, yes, are only Bejing and London–has been anticipated for years. As a matter of fact, I can remember more hype around the Vancouver Olympics than seemed like was around Sochi.

Perhaps it’s due to the fact that this year, there have been multiple setbacks for the Olympics. For example, the security issues not too far off, and the extremely faulty newsperson and athlete accommodations. Not to mention the faux pas with the iconic Olympic rings at the Opening Ceremony.

Don’t get me wrong, I completely understand that the Winter Olypics are a big deal on an international scale, but I feel that the Summer Olympics bring more people together.

The Summer Olympics include events that more people can be a part of in their everyday lives. Swimming, basketball, volleyball, and running are all sports that I could participate in here at home. Speedskating, slope-style snowboarding, curling, and ski jumping are sports that I have never, and probably never will, get the chance to experience.

Hockey is probably one of, if not the most anticipated events of the Winter Olympics, and I do see how a lot of people can be so into it. Though I am not one of those people.

I’m not discrediting T.J. Oshie, or Shaun White, or any other Winter Olympics athlete. The amount work that they do to get to this point in their athletic careers is quite possibly more and higher intensity than I will ever experience. I commend each and every one of the participants in the Sochi Games, but my real interest lies in the Rio Summer Olympics in 2016.
