May 20 marked the day of the annual end-of-the-year World Dance showcase. World Dance is offered as a class in which students learn a variety of dance forms and are able to express themselves in a different way.

“I like the class because I am able to be myself and still have fun in a class at school.” said senior and class participant Teniah Gary.

At the showcase, there were different types of dances and groups performing. The show was very entertaining, but most importantly, the students looked like they were having a great time. Their energy was amazing and they made the crowd wish they could get up and dance as well.

The majority of the dances were groups, but there were also some solos and duets included.

“It takes a lot of courage to get up there and dance in front of a crowd by yourself,” Gary said.

I was very impressed that the class was able to remember so many different dances. Some of the girls were in almost all of the performances in the show. I was also impressed to discover that many of the dances were made up by the students themselves.

“Mrs. Hasenkamp gave us free reign and we were able to participate and make up dances at our own will,” Gary said.

The World Dance class seems like a very fun class that allows students to express themselves through dance. I was very entertained and enlightened because I did not know very much about the class. Hopefully the class can continue success and grow even larger in the future.
