MULTIMEDIA Theatre department to perform Hairspray and a look at past musicals

The curtain will rise in February on the 2019 spring musical Hairspray presented by the high school theatre department.

Emily Barton said the musical is going to be a lot of fun.

“Hairspray is about a teen girl who does not fit in very much because she is bigger than the other kids and she loves to dance so she gets the opportunity to dance on a TV show which has always been her childhood dream.”

Kaitlyn Kelly and other students that are involved in the musical are excited for the production.

“It’s a lot of fun,” she said. “It has great music, it has great numbers, but it also teaches us about diversity.”

The students in the musical “Hairspray” do a lot of things to make sure they are prepared for the musical. Jarred McCormick has been working extremely hard on his part.

“There are rehearsals pretty much every day after school and I can also work at my house to work on singing and dancing.”

One thing Kelly has found very interesting is how her character is so unlike herself, saying that she has to think about the meanest things possible in order to get into character.

Hairspray will be performed Feb. 14-17 in the high school auditorium.
