Brooke Jenkins is moving on to Sectionals after finishing in 1st place in the long jump and triple jump at the Districts meet hosted by Pattonville on May 11.

Just a week earlier, Jenkins broke school records in both events – records that she already held.

She jumped 19-feet-3-inches in the long jump to break a school record set by herself last year and totaled 39-feet-1-inch in the triple jump to break her own school record that she broke earlier this season that was held since 1991.

Her first  jump was 37-feet-8-inches and girls track coach Corey Lewis challenged her to go even farther.

“Coach Lewis came up to me before my second jump and he said he’d buy me lunch if I broke the record,” she said. “He kept his promise and brought me Chick-Fil-A after practice on Friday.”

She has a special routine before she jumps.

“I like to charge up so I can go down the runway my fastest, and I take a really deep breath before I jump,” she said. “I practice hard so I can continue to be No. 2 in the state and potentially make my way up to No. 1 in the state.”

Jenkins is signed to the University of Missouri – Kansas City for track.
