Tornado season rolling into the state of Missouri

The St. Louis area was hit with one known tornado on April 10 in the Hazelwood area (Highway 270 and Lindbergh). Another tornado was reported as being spotted around the Highway 170 and Interstate 70 area. This storm reminded many in the Pattonville School District of the Good Friday tornado that took place on April 22, 2011.

On Wednesday night, approximately around 8:01 p.m., a tornado with winds of 101 MPH touched down in the Hazelwood area. Significant damage was done to the area. A house was destroyed by the strong wind and many trees cracked in half, covering many streets with rubble from the surrounding area.

Of areas that lost power, about 90 percent of power outages occurred in St. Louis and the other 10 percent happened in the Illinois area. The major power outage spread throughout the Bridgeton, Maryland Heights, Hazelwood and Creve Coeur area.

Lights were out until around the time of 9:30 p.m. for many in the Pattonville School District area.

There were no reports of major injuries or deaths, but significant damage was done to the areas.
