Pattonville High School’s Key Club is sponsoring a blood drive on Feb. 14. The blood drive will be held in the low-ceiling roo
m and runs from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Key Club sponsor and math teacher Ms. Lisa Shah said the organization hosts the spring blood drive every year while the National Honor Society hosts the blood drive in the fall.
“We have the blood drive to help the community,” Shah said. While she has donated blood in the past, she is unable to donate this year.
Anyone meeting the requirements of the American Red Cross can donate blood during the drive. Sixteen-year-olds are now able to donate with a signed parental consent form and will need to bring a valid ID. Individuals who are 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate.
High school students and anyone age 18 or younger must meet additional height and weight requirements. There is no upper-age limit.
After a donation, blood goes through several tests, and then it will be available for hospital patients where a single donation may help save up to three lives.
