“Cold. Very, very cold,” said sophomore Sam Yancey describing what it felt like after shaving her head this past Saturday for St. Baldrick’s.
Sophomore Leeann Graff, who also shaved her head, said her first few days have been good after shaving her head also.
“I like it a lot,” Graff said. “It’s so easy to take care of.”
But not everyone is familiar with St. Baldrick’s and the reason why Graff is ‘bald.’
“When I walk into random stores, people stare and it makes me laugh though because it’s not really adults but kids,” Graff said. “They’ll just stare at you.”
Graff said she’s gotten more stares than questions especially out in public.
As for family and friends, Yancey said her mom hasn’t stopped crying over the past few days but everyone has been very supportive. Graff has gotten lots of praise from family and friends.
“They’re really proud of me and very supportive of what I did.”
Both girls believe they made a huge statement in raising awareness for cancer.
“After people ask, they’ll maybe want to go on the website and maybe make a donation,” said Graff.
