As only a sophomore, Susan Sorsen is creating advanced artwork that is being displayed in multiple venues. She recently had a painting of a waterfall showcased at the Florissant Valley Community College high school exhibit. Her painting received an honorable mention.
Sorsen is currently in AP Studio Art where she does most of her paintings using watercolors. Right now Sorsen is working on paintings with a concentration on people in hats. A painting of her brother is displayed in the cases outside of the art hallway.
Art has always been appealing to Sorsen because she says, “it keeps me busy and gives me something to do if I’m bored. And it’s one thing I’m really good at.” Although she is not sure where she is going to college, she plans on majoring in art.
While all of Sorsen’s artwork is important to her, she also hopes that it will impact others. “I hope that my artwork would make people happy. That’s the best thing you could ask for,” Sorsen stated.
Sorsen currently has artwork featured at the St. Louis Artists’ Guild in their new gallery exhibition Young Artists’ Showcase. Her artwork will be featured now through April 6. The gallery is open to the public and admission is free.
