Lin-Sanity hits the Big Apple!

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is not normally a landing spot for people who attend Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts. Most high school basketball stars dream of going to Duke, Kansas, Syracuse, or Kentucky – not places like Harvard or Yale; otherwise known as the academic or Ivy League schools.

Tell that to Jeremy Lin, an undrafted point guard who is now setting the basketball world on fire for the New York Knicks, scoring 20 points per game and handing out more than 8 assists per game. These “Cinderella” stories only happen in professional sports once in a generation. And when they do, it really causes a stir.

Just three weeks ago, Lin was sitting on the end of the Knicks’ bench, just days away from being released. He was finally given his opportunity when Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks’ best player was injured. Coach Mike D’Antoni inserted Lin into a game on Feb. 4 against the New Jersey Nets, mainly he said, “out of desperation.”  His desperation attempt succeeded, and Lin has been a superstar since that time.

Knicks fans now go to Madison Square Garden dressed in Lin attire and chant his name every time he touches the basketball.  The pandemonium has gotten so out of control that the NBA was forced into placing Lin in the Rookie-Sophomore game at the All-Star festivities.  Even Lin cannot believe all of the praise he is receiving.  “I thought it would die down by now,” Lin said.  “I never thought the craziness would last this long.”
