Many Pattonville High School students are experiencing their first year in the district. However, they are not the only ones trying things that they are unfamiliar with. Some educators alike are teaching new courses.
Jessica Wynn, a teacher of English 1 and 3, as well as Film and Literature, is one of those educators. Honors English 1 has been added to her list of classes this year.
She knows all about how challenging yourself with different types of written works can work to your advantage in life.
There is a distinct difference between working in a more advanced class, as opposed to being in the regular course.
“There is a higher work level, as well as amount of work,” Wynn said.
Wynn said in order to get recommended for Honors or AP, a student must have a good history of grades, as well as be a hard worker. She also said there are prerequisites, or things that are required prior to a recommendation.
When asked about how taking honors and AP courses can benefit a student, she said, “Those classes get students prepared for a higher education. There’s rigorous work that allows them to challenge themselves.”
Students can sign up for honors courses next year during Stop Day which will take place in January 2015.
