Most people wouldn’t ever imagine waking up on a Saturday so that they could jump into a lake as cold as ice, but every year, a number of Pattonville students take part in the Polar Plunge.
“The Polar Plunge helps to fund the Special Olympics program in Missouri,” STUCO member Canaan Kerr said.
To be able to take the jump into the lake, students must first raise a total of $75 by the date of the event, which is Feb. 28, 2015.
“Raising the money is easy,” Kerr said. “You can easily get donations from your family members on an online account and through social media.”
The event will take place at Creve Coeur Lake Park, located near the high school.
“I love the event,” junior Nathalie Solorio said. “I think it’s a great cause and it isn’t as expensive as other fundraisers.”
Solorio has been taking part in the event since she was in 9th grade.
“I just want to help show students with special needs that they can compete just like anyone else,” Solorio said.
