Homecoming tickets: Are they a good investment?

September 29, 2017

As October approaches so does homecoming. Although students can just walk up and purchase a $15 slip of paper in the Commons that allows them access to a night of music and dancing, some complain about the cost of the tickets and wonder what that money goes toward.

“The tickets are how we pay for everything, so with not a lot of purchases made for these tickets, it means less ‘stuff’ for homecoming,” said STUCO sponsor Ms. Jacqueline Saxton. “We have to pay for everything somehow, from DJs, props, and concessions. From previous years, the tickets prices were lower and so less was paid for those homecomings”

The money goes toward decorating the main gym and lobby for the dance.

“We hire a company to come decorate for homecoming, and the prices go up for the DJ sometimes as well,” STUCO sponsor Ms. Heather Lopez said. “Hopefully the homecoming is a little different than last year, and that the DJ goes by what some of the students suggest and by the guidelines of our school as well.”

Wishing that more money would go toward refreshments, Lindsey Lorsbach hoped that the purchase of these tickets offered free refreshments for this night.

“I hope there’s free refreshments and I would like to know what the purchase of these tickets has to offer.”

Jashayla Pettigrew said she hoped that the DJ was a little better than last year due to the abhorrent sound of Sweet Home Alabama and the notorious Don’t Stop Believing, and instead something else be played.
