Students live stream football games

New class offers new technology to students in order to live stream sports.

During Week 2 of the football, students in Pirates Sports Net live stream the Pattonville football game against Mehlville.

The football team is off to an excellent start with a record of 2-2 heading into this week’s game against Webster Groves. The team just upset football powerhouse Kirkwood that was ranked No. 1 in the state of Missouri.

Undefeated so far at home, fans that have not been able to make it to the games have had the chance to watch the competition on Facebook Live.

“Brand new this year, the football games are being posted on Facebook Live so people who cannot physically view the game can view it from their house,” Brandon Clark said. “Juniors Brandon Tiepelman, Jorge Coronado, and I are the voices behind this brand-new livestream.”

All of these students are in the Pirate Sports Network class which also happens to be brand new this year. They sit at the top of the bleachers every game with wireless microphones and commentate the live stream play-by-play.

During halftime, students met Randy Karraker from ESPN101 who gave them words of advice about sports journalism.

“We are a funny, enthusiastic, and non-biased bunch that love sports and voluntarily commentate each of the home football games,” Clark said. “We are hoping that the Pirate Sports Network will increase our chances of having a sports journalism related career.”

They will broadcast every home game this season.

“If you get the chance to do so, check us out at Pirates home football games starting at 7 7 p.m. on Friday nights,” Clark said. “We would like if you could critique our commentary in the comment section and share our video while you watch.”

There are plans to cover more sports and events throughout the school year.

The next home football game will be Oct. 6 against Ritenour High School. Like PattonvilleTODAY on Facebook in order to catch all of the action.
