Students sit in the rain in the bleachers at Pattonville Stadium during the state semifinal game against Fort Zumwalt North.

Pattonville topped Fort Zumwalt North 26-7 in the semifinal game to earn a right to play for the Class 5 football state championship against Staley at Mizzou on Nov. 25.

The big news of the game however was the weather. But it did not stop the Pirates fans from coming out to Pattonville Stadium and supporting their team.

“This game was definitely worth standing in the cold for,” senior Trinity Gleghorn said. “Especially because they won.”

She said she wanted to be at the game because it’s been 10 years since the Pirates had their last Final Four appearance. The only other time Pattonville has reached the state championship game was in 2000.

Varsity football player Caron Coleman said it was cold while playing and he did have some trouble with keeping his feet moving because of the rain.

“The only fear I had was getting frostbite because it was cold as hell outside.”

The game in Columbia on Saturday has a schedule kickoff of 7 p.m. The forecast is sunny wit a high of 54 and a low of 31.
