The Marines are not just people that risk their lives for us. Some are also musicians.

The Marine Corps Band performed in the high school auditorium during 2nd and 3rd hour on Dec. 12 to classes that signed up to attend.

Playing about five songs including a Christmas medley featuring This Christmas, Sleigh Ride, and Jingle Bells, students were cheering as individual solos occurred like the saxophone, drums, and trumpet.

Senior Gisele Hinojosa attended the concert and thought the band was very interesting.

“I was not aware that the military had people who went in to play in a band,” she said. “I think that is what is so great about joining the military. Everyone, no matter what kind of talents or skills they posses, have a place to join.”

Between songs, a Marine explained what it’s like to go through the basic training and musical training in order to be part of something so big and powerful.

The band that performed is based in New Orleans and is made up of dedicated Marines that are from many different places in the United States.

The Marines explained opportunities given to them by being in the band.

As a member of the Marines, they get trained to be in the armed forces, earn college scholarships, and even get to travel all over the world to play and protect the United States of America.

If students are interested in learning about opportunities to them to join the Marines after high school, they can contact their local recruiter and find out more. The Marines also visit the high school and have a table set up occasionally in the Commons during lunches.
